By BOB OWENS | WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Sleeping Beauty and Aurora, Colorado, became the first cities in the United States to be awarded the 2018 National Beauty Beauty Award, recognizing the city for its stunning skyline and sweeping green spaces.
The annual National Beauty Award recognises a city’s “beautifulness in the face of adversity” and the “perseverance of women and girls through adversity.”
The 2018 winner, Aurora and the other two finalists were chosen from a list of nearly 700 cities across the United U.S., including the city of New York and the cities of San Francisco and San Jose.
The city of Aurora was chosen from the cities in which it has the most diverse population and the second-largest population, according to the U.K.-based British National Portrait Gallery.
The National Beauty Awards will be presented on Dec. 18, 2018.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will present the 2018 Beauty Award to the city’s mayor, who will be recognized at the announcement of the winner, according a statement.
The winner will be announced in December.
